A Michigan trucking company co-owner is facing multiple felony charges for allegedly overcharging a construction company by millions of dollars over the course of several years.
Authorities have charged 47 year old Lorie Stuer with nine counts of felony fraud in relation in to a billing scheme, according to ABC12.
Stuer is co-owner of Stoney Creek Trucking, which is based in North Branch, Michigan.
The scheme was discovered after construction equipment supplier Bandit Industries filed a complaint with the Isabella County Sheriff’s Office in December 2018.
The complaint launched a five month investigation during which police examined invoices and billing records. Investigators determined that Stuer had falsified records of shipping for Bandit Industries since 2011, resulting in the company being overcharged for trucking services by more than $3.65 million.
The nine felony charges against Stuer include:
- Three counts of false pretenses – $1 million or more.
- Three counts of using a computer to commit a crime.
- Three counts of fraud – obtaining signature with intent to defraud.
